Accept that you have the power to care for yourself. Oftentimes we can perpetuate a mindset of helplessness because we are still hoping for someone to rescue us. Likely this is a desire that began in childhood. It is often more comfortable to feel helpless than to feel the grief that comes with letting go of the desire to have someone’s care and attention. Be gentle with yourself as you feel this grief. Remember as we accept responsibility for meeting our own needs, we allow ourselves a chance to feel a sense of sovereignty in our own life.
