That’s a legitimate interrogation, my friend! It seems to me that it’s one of the principles that Buddhism and Stoicism philosophies have in common: the principle of non-attachment (equally to things and people). The inner-peace comes from the acceptance that each soul has a journey that goes beyond the physical death, that we may love a person limitlessly but without being attached to the physical presence that we don’t control.
